DLSHSI MED SCHOLARSHIPS

UPDATES (as of Dec 17, 2014)- you can check out the current requirements for the scholarship here. Much better if you can contact the office itself for any questions or clarifications regarding the other requirements. :)

UPDATES, results are out for those accepted into the scholarship program. :) you can either personally ask at the admissions office at the Wang Building or email Dr. Cabanias at scholarships@dlshsi.edu.ph. But since a lot might email, it would be faster to just visit the office.

Wish you guys all the best! Im still waiting for my results. Kinda scared to ask. :(

____________________________________________________________________________________

Hey guys, I know most of you are already applying at different med schools and i hope that De La Salle is one of your choices. :)

One of the reasons why I chose De La Salle Health Sciences's Med Program was their great scholarship program.

One thing I have to say is that their scholarship program is really generous. When I was applying at different med schools, one of the things I looked at were their scholarship programs and the availability of slots. Of the med schools I applied to, DLSHSI and UE were the only ones that I was qualified for.

In UST, they dont give out scholarships to 1st years unless you graduated Summa or Magna. With UP, you have to be within a given economic range (I think it was Php200K below for the whole year), and I was above that range. With UE, they had a limited number of slots that I was half sold on because I knew I had a chance at it, but chances were slim, and I didnt want to take that chance. DLSHSI practically guaranteed my scholarship when I applied, and my parents were sold on that. All I had to do was just fill up their scholarship forms and voila! ultra mega discount! :))

So they have several scholarships (taken from their website):

General Institutionally Funded Scholarships

  • Entrance scholarship
  • Academic scholarship
  • Financial scholarship
  • Service scholarship
  • Gawad Lasalyanong Edukasyon scholarship
  • Institutionally Funded Scholarships given to all DLSHSI regular employees
    • Brother President Scholarship Program (BPSP), Enhanced Brother President Scholarship Program (EBPSP) and the Employees’ Dependents (EDSP) / Grand Father Clause (GFCSP) Scholarship Program
  • Externally Funded Scholarship (Medicine)

    • Brother President Scholarship Grant (BPSG) through Individual Sponsorships
    • DLSU Science Foundation (Hi-Eisei) Scholarship Grant
    • Dr. Patricia Generoso Memorial Scholarship Grant
    • Dr. Romeo P. Ariniego Scholarship Grant
    • Dr. Lloyd Balajadia Scholarship Grant
    • Dormbuilt, Inc. Scholarship Grant
    • Merck, Inc. Philippines Scholarship Program
    • Provincial or Local Government Scholarships
    • Other scholarships that are funded or sponsored by an external agency and/or individual sponsors/philanthropists through the effort of the Brother President and the Scholarship Program and Development Center

For the externally funded scholarships, these may differ from year to year, depending on the sponsor. :)

For general requirements and other info, you can check out their website here

For this school year, I applied for the Entrance Scholarship, (I graduated Cum Laude from my undergrad) so I was entitled to 50% off my tuition. For the discount, this is based on the tuition itself and does not include discounts on the miscellaneous fees and whatnot. So for my tuition of Php113k (at the time), I only paid around Php 70K. This was one of the major reasons why I was drawn to DLSHSI, from the other schools that I applied to.

The scholarship is good for one whole academic year, and by the end of the year, you can just renew or reapply for the scholarship, given that you were able to maintain the grade.

For Entrance scholars, we have a maintaining grade of 87%. It may sound attainable, but I have to tell you, after just a sem here, I'm starting to feel that I wont be able to get that grade. Hopefully this second sem, I can catch up and keep my scholarship. :(

For Financial scholars, they have a maintaining grade of 83%.

Once you're a scholar of the school, they'll have you fill out an MOA that states that for every year you accomplish under the scholarship, you have to render 1 year service to the school/hospital and must be done within 5 years upon graduation.

For some, this may pose as a problem since they might have a hospital in mind to take their internship or residency. I dont think this is such a problem since the De La Salle University Medical Center (UMC) has a pretty good training program. They also said that its ideal to do your internship here since you can have the time to study for the boards and do your rotations, while some doctors/ lecturers there can even provide review classes.

I am from Davao and I am glad you posted blog about applying for scholarship in your school. I am also planning to take Med this June 2013 and this school is my priority. However, I am just an average student and got very low NMAT score. Financially, my parents can't sustain my tuition fee. Is there a chance I can get scholarship too? I'll be waiting for your reply po. Thankyou. Happy New Year! :D

    1. Hi! Thanks so much for visiting my site. :)

For the scholarships, try calling the admissions office and look for Ms. Wendy, she can help you out about the scholarships that you are most qualified for. :)

I cant really say how high your chances are to get the scholarship since i have no idea about your nmat score and grades, so just to be sure, call up the school. Or if you're going to pass your requirements, just drop by their office.

wish you all the best and hope to see you at HSI! happy new year!

  2. Hello. I stumbled upon your blog as I was searching about DLSHSI. Thank you for sharing these sorts of information. Very useful for aspiring doctors like me! :)

Could, by any chance, help me in finding where the updated list of application requirements for SY 2013-2014 are? Also, I was wondering about the deadline and other relevant information. Their site (http://www.dlshsi.edu.ph/potential_students/admission_process_and_procedure/college_of_medicine/) doesn't seem to look updated.. or is it?

Any information would really be of help.

Looking forward to studying in your school. :)

    1. Hi!!!! :) sorry for the super late reply. and thank you for visiting my blog! :) Its still the same requirements, and the required NMAT is still 40% although they prefer a higher one.

There's no actual deadline when applying but the application process is on a first come first serve basis, once they fill up all 300 slots, they stop accepting, so hurry! :D

Hope to see you at DLSHSI!

    1. Hi Robert! :) yup, i asked the admissions office about it. Although the nmat is 40%, they would still prefer a higher one since more and more people are applying for md slots. :)

    1. Thank you for the support kat! :) for the externally funded scholarships, its all in the brochure. :) some externally funded scholarships have their own requirements, and they're not always available every year, like the Merck scholarship. Much better if you can come by admissions office to talk with ms. Wendy about the other scholarship options. :) you can apply to different scholarships, but can only be accepted at one though.

What do you think po?

    1. Maybe lang. You can try for the entrance scholarship kung laude ka, but for financial, they might choose those na mas less yung income. Pretty much the same situation tayo before, i tried applying for the brother president scholarship, they informed me that di ko nakuha kasi over ako sa income. Try calling ms wendy and ask about other alternatives. :)

  10. hi! i got an outrageously high score in the NMAT but wasn't able to go to med school due to various complicated reasons. instead of becoming a doctor, i became a teacher who motivates young hopefuls to become "true disciples & advocates of Hippocrates".

my daughter, who recently graduated from an allied med science baccalaureate degree, now expresses her willingness & determination to be a doc. however, a teacher's salary would never be enough to send her to med school. do you think she has a chance to avail of a scholarship at DLS-HSI? (her GWA is 2.0 and she plans to take the NMAT this year.)

    thanks so much!

  11. @Anonymous

Hi Anon, thanks for visiting the site! :) your daughter is so lucky to have such a supportive parent. :)

For the scholarship, there's always a chance, if he/she graduated with latin honors, usually sure na makukuha yung scholarship, priority nila talaga yun, if not, there are available financial scholarships to apply to. An important is that your income is within or under their cut off bracket. You can check my other post regarding the scholarships available for your daughter. :)

Im sure kaya niyo po yan, my mom has a friend, single parent po siya, and was also a teacher, she was able to support her daughter all throughout med. :)

Wish you all the best, and please feel free to ask about anything. :)

  12. Good day! I just read your blog. Just want to say, THUMBS UP to this!!
I recently graduated with no Latin honors last April on my Pre-med course (BS Bio) in a state university in Quezon Prov. As of now, I am working as a call center agent for me to be able to save some money for future studies.
Because I really want to be a MD someday. But for the meantime, i'll be taking the NMAT this November for future purposes kasi 2 years naman validity nun. Just like everyone else here, financially not capable kami ng family ko in terms of pursuing Med.

regarding with my matter, what are the requirements to the financial scholarship that DLSHI offers?
thanks for the response and Godbless!

  13. @Daniel Monteros

Hi Daniel, sorry for the late rep, hell week kasi. :) the requirements are in the other vlog post, and additional is if its financial, theres a specific financial requirement na (i think...) parents income should be below 400k annually? If you'd like to make sure, you can call Ms.Wendy at admissions if there are any updates ont he requirements. :)

  14. Hi! May I ask. What if I graduated Cum Laude but my NMAT score was just 49% do you think they would allow me to enroll?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Hi there! Your blog is really helpful.

My undergrad grades are good (4th year BS Bio student candidate for cum laude) but my NMAT score is just 38%. May chance pa bang ma accept ako. I hope i could get a reply on this. Thanks in advance! God bless! :)

  16. @Marjorie Mahinay Pabillore

Hi marjorie! Thanks for visiting the site, :) i really cant say for sure, because i know their requirement is an nmat of 40-60, but maybe your grades in your undergrad can help. They dont solely rely on your NMAT, they also look at your undergrad grades and performance as well as your interview. :)

    ReplyDelete
  17. @Anonymous

Hi! Thanks for visiting the site! :) i know that their requirement for the nmat used to be 40 and above. They still take into consideration your grades in your undergrad course, and your interview. Graduating with honors is a big plus when applying at La Salle. :)

May I know my chance of getting accepted? Are they strict in accepting students? ☹️ pls do respond because I’ve been looking for blogs, sites and people who have information regarding DLSHSI.
