Advice for all incoming 2nd year students: You do not have to buy all of these books to survive the 2nd year. Since most exam questions come from the lecture PPTs, the PPTs should be your number 1 reference (and supplement the points you have difficulty understanding with your books). The idealistic approach of using multiple resources for studying may not work this time because there are several subjects and you only have a limited amount of time.
In my opinion, the essential books for the 2nd year are the Internal Medicine, Surgery, and Obstetrics books.
When you start second year, you will also have to buy the Physical Diagnosis wardwork manual, Patho lab manual, Microbiology lab manual, Pharmacology lab manual and Pharmacology didactic study guide. I think they cost P500 per book. You also have the option of buying Dr. Padla's Mycology book, though I was not able to use it even once (Mycology is just a very small portion of the whole Microbiology course).
